Toby Jaxon

Toby’s public artistic career began at the age of 6 when she won a poster contest and had her picture of a lion displayed at the local hockey rink. From pencil crayons and poster paints, Toby moved to oils and acrylics in high school where she affected a hyperrealist style that eventually taxed her patience. Later, while attending Art + Design at college in Alberta, Toby experimented with other media and styles but finally settled on acrylics on canvas and eventually gravitate toward impressionistic landscapes. Since moving back to the West from Toronto in 1991, Toby’s art has appeared in galleries and public venues, such as The Harmony Arts Festival, group exhibits; numerous café shows and also impresses viewers of private and corporate collections. Along with Toby's strong passion for colour, her artistic inspiration springs from omnipresent nature and movement.

Surrounded by the tranquil coastal mountains, Toby resides in Squamish. She is the creative owner of Jaxon Designstudio, a local multi-disciplinary Interior Design firm that specializes in residential, real estate home staging, corporate/commercial facility design & planning where she continues to enhance her design and graphic skills while pursuing her love of painting in vibrating colour. Even her commissioned portraits verify how colour creates impact and effect that stimulates the visual senses.

Toby Jaxon is the new Curator of the Foyer Gallery and Vice President of VISUALS Squamish Valley Artists Society. As a dedicated volunteer, Toby directed the Squamish ArtWalk Gallery ’06-‘07 events. She has received numerous art awards, was honoured for her painting ‘Girl’s Best Friend’ and most recently voted Best Local Artist in The Chief Reader’s Choice 2008 Awards.
