JOANNA SCHWARZ PHOTOGRAPHY

LANDSCAPES and MORE

Well composed, evocative and with a 'painterly' quality, Joanna's photos capture the essence of landscapes and more. Known for her local landscapes, she has recently experimented with different techniques and more abstract forms.

About her newest piece pictured above she says, “The red antique farm truck inspired me to photograph it in a new way. Using camera motion, I was pleased with the “water colour effect” that captures the dream-like quality of another era. Printed on canvas, the photo feels more like a painting.” Recent shows in the Sea to Sky Corridor include: Wild at Art, Quest University Gala Opening, Metamorphosis Evolution, Art Walk and the Foyer Gallery. Three pieces are on display at Starbucks in the Garibaldi Estates for the month of March.

Joanna grew up in Parksville on Vancouver Island and has made her home in Squamish, BC since 1973. She is a photographer, writer and composer. With a background in music and dance, as well as the literary and visual arts, Joanna brings a wealth of creative experience to her photography.

Mountain, Sea and Sky was inspired by an earlier Squamish Song Contest. "It's all about who we are", Joanna says. "I'm thrilled with the newly arranged choral version. As well, the original solo version that came out in 2003 is familiar to many locals. It includes a 5 1/2 minute DVD/video that compliments my lyrics with footage of the eagles, the spawning salmon, Mt. Garibaldi, the Chief and Shannon Falls".

In another project, teacher, Jean Wilkinson, along with other local teachers has put together an Eagle study for distribution to elementary schools in the corridor. The lesson on "Eagles in Arts and Literature" includes Mountain, Sea and Sky (the solo version). Contact jdwilkin@telus.net

Copies are limited, but you can still order the CD/DVD version directly from Joanna (email only). The cost is $10 plus $2 for postage and handling.
